Johan coaches and assesses mediators for Conflict Dynamics. He is a founding member of the Family Mediators’ Association of the Cape (FAMAC) since 1994 and has conducted training for FAMAC since 1996. He has conducted training for the Legal Education and Development (LEAD) programme of the Law Societies of South Africa (LSSA) and for private clients since the early 2000's. He has participated in and conducted Train-the-Trainer courses on behalf of LSSA / LEAD and does custom in-house training for companies, schools, faith-based organisations, and NGO's.
John is in private practice as an attorney and mediator based in Cape Town, South Africa. He received the degrees BA (Hons) and MA at the University of Cape Town, and the law degrees B.Proc and LLB through the University of South Africa. He was admitted to practice as an attorney and conveyancer in 1993 and trained as a mediator in 1994. Specialising in mediation, particularly in family, commercial, labour, and organisational disputes, he was accredited by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) UK and Conflict Dynamics as a commercial mediator (in 2007) and completed advanced training in mediation in complex company / community environments at the Graduate School of Business (UCT) in 2017.
John is a member of the standing committee on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) for the Cape Law Society and is an alternate member of the LSSA national standing committee on ADR. The Education, Training and Development Practices Sectoral Education Training Authority (ETDP SETA) has accredited John to conduct outcomes-based assessments. He has also published a book titled Mediation in Family and Divorce Disputes (SiberInk, Cape Town, 2014).
